Link from my friend Darrell... The United Nations Human Rights Council is preparing to place Israel under permanent investigation over its supposed violation of international law in the Gaza Strip, Samaria, Judea and the Golan Heights. The organization which was formed last June, replaced the UN Human Rights Commission, which had problems with membership and constantly issued anti-Israel resolutions. But the new Council also seems to be transfixed on Israel, repeatedly singling out the Jewish nation for criticism, while other nations such as Syria, Saudi Arabia, North Korea and China, that have horrific human rights records, are painted whiter than white. Even former UN Secretary General, who himself was guilty of falsely accusing Israel for supposed "war crimes" during the conflict with Hizbullah, expressed his concern that the new rights body was too anti-Israel... Quote: "[Israeli Ambassador to the UN] Neuer said Israel would be rapped for the Antiquities Authority's construction of an access ramp to the Temple Mount's Mughrabi Gate. The work has been widely condemned throughout the Muslim world. Neuer said the council would also take Israel to task for refusing entry to inquiry teams in July and in November. The first team was sent to investigate Israel's actions in the Gaza Strip following the kidnapping by Hamas of Cpl. Gilad Shalit in June. The second team was dispatched to investigate the accidental discharge of an IDF artillery barrage that killed 19 civilians in Beit Hanoun in the northern Gaza Strip in November. Levanon said the investigators were denied entry because they were overtly biased against Israel. And with guest speakers such as Iranian nuclear negotiator Larijani, who today told the Human Rights Council that the world had to deal with the Israeli nuclear threat, is it any wonder that the UN body continues to single Israel out for condemnation? Quote: "Mottaki told the world's top disarmament forum that Israel was the only country in the region that refuses to accede to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty even though he said Prime Minister Ehud Olmert last year acknowledged that his country had nuclear weapons - which Olmert denies doing. A nuclear-armed Israel poses "a uniquely grave threat to regional and international peace and security and requires to be seriously dealt with by the international community taking practical measures," Mottaki told the 65-nation Conference on Disarmament.
