Thanks for your emails on love and truth, everyone. It's been a real interesting discussion for me. Hong Kong's media regulator received over 2000 requests to classify the Bible as an indecent publication because of violent and sexual content, but the media regulator rejected the demands stating the Scriptures are a religious text and was part of civilization. The complaints followed the classification of a student column in the state, which asked readers if they had ever fantasized about incest or bestiality. Apparently the author must have taken offence at this, and criticized the Scriptures which also mentions violence, incest, rape, murder and other sins. Quote: "The regulator received 2,041 complaints against the Bible this week, following an uproar over a sex column in a student magazine that was classified as "indecent" by authorities for asking if readers had ever fantasised about incest or bestiality. A Web site launched soon afterwards campaigned to have the Bible similarly classified, citing passages with sexual and violent content it claimed went beyond that of the sex column. But TELA said in its statement the Bible "had not violated standards of morality, decency and propriety generally accepted by reasonable members of the community". It's not the first time the Scriptures have come under attack from people claiming to be more moral than God. Christians fear that the new Sexual Orientation law in Canada may classify portions of Scripture which condemn the homosexual lifestyle as "hate speech". While the Bible does mention sins such as murder and incest, it condemns them completely. What makes the Bible different from other religious texts is, it shows us for what we are - sinners. That's how we know it wasn't authored by man, for men wouldn't have included their own faults when writing about themselves. Most of the good laws we have left in our country are founded upon God's laws mentioned in the Scriptures, and the real reason why men want to ban the Bible is not because it is indecent, but because its righteousness condemns their own sinful lifestyles. No matter who bans it, no matter who burns it, no matter who tries to destroy the Scriptures, the Lord has said, Heaven and earth shall pass away but My Word shall never pass away. Source Reuters |
