Dr. Charles Saunders, chairman of the British Medical Association's consultants' committee, has warned that sex education in Scotland must begin at an early age in order to prevent more teenagers taking risks with their health. According to this article, Scotland has one of the worst sexual health records in the Western world, with over 9000 teenagers becoming pregnant in 2005 alone. At least 800 of these were girls under the age of 16, and around 1 in 4 teenagers aborted their children. To combat this horrific trend, Dr. Saunders is suggesting that sex education begin at the age of five, and that contraceptives be handed out to schoolchildren who are under the age of consent. Quote: ""At five it needs to be a language that they understand and taught in the same way as any other subject. It would be basic mechanics at that age in the same way as you teach a child of that age a tiny amount about geography, a fairly superficial introduction. "It should start off with relatively simple concepts in the same way as English and science start off with the basics. It could start off with how babies are made and progress from there." He added: "You need to start somewhere and it makes an awful lot of sense to start long before it's needed, because if you leave it too long you are wasting your time. "Basically sex education needs to be a whole lot better. It's not just anatomical drawings but what the risks are from infections and what the pros and cons are of having sex or waiting. "It's not a simple task to get young people empowered enough to use condoms, but it's the key. You want to ensure people are not having sex when they don't want to have it, and that when they do want to have it they are not putting themselves at risk." It's horrific. It's like giving a loaded gun to a child and telling them how it works, and then expecting them to make a wise decision not to use it. Children at this age do not have the ability to make such decisions, no matter how much education they receive. We have removed the teaching of morality from the classroom, and we believe that "education, education, education" will solve all our problems. We have destroyed the concept of the family unit, and in its place we teach our children that it is normal for parents not to be married, or to have only one parent, or two parents of the same sex. Unfortunately this is commonplace today, but I use "normal" in the sense that it is approved by society. And then we wonder why we have such problems? Over the past few years there has been a great decline in my country. The Bible states that during the last days, people's view of morality would become so twisted, that evil would be declared good and good would be thought of as evil (Isaiah 5:20). I never thought I would see that day, but today Christians are lambasted as intolerant bigots for abiding by God's laws, while those who favour "diversity" are honoured in this world. But as Peter said, we ought to obey God rather than men. There is a song I have of Johnny Cash, and the words go something like this... He'll be friend and guide you, He'll walk along with you Right is might. Sometimes I do things that are wrong, and I afterwards I feel despondent because of my sins. But the Lord Jesus Christ cleanses me through His precious blood, and helps me to do right. And when we do right, we have strength from God. As in Noah's day things are looking dark, but we see the Light. And He'll be our friend and guide us until the journey's done. Psalm 73:22-26 Source BBC, Scotland on Sunday |
