Prime Minister David Cameron has publicly committed the UK government to legalizing homosexual 'marriage' within three years, despite strong opposition from churches and even members within his own party. He made the announcement at a reception for homosexual lobby groups at 10 Downing Street. Praising the former Prime Minister Tony Blair for 'paving the way' with Civil Partnerships legislation, he said he was “absolutely determined that this Coalition government will follow in that tradition by legislating for gay marriage in this Parliament”. His comments follow a similar statement by the Scottish government, which recently unveiled plans to legalize homosexual 'marriage' by the year 2015 in spite of overwhelming public opposition. Two-thirds of those who responded to a Scottish consultation opposed the idea of homosexual 'marriage', but government ministers vowed to press ahead regardless, claiming it was the “right thing to do”. And it's not only Scottish politicians who are now claiming to know what's best. The British Prime Minister has also suddenly found a new sense of morality on the issue, and has taken to lecturing churches on their acceptance of homosexuality... Quote: “The Church should not ‘be locking out people who are gay, or are bisexual or are transgender from being full members of that Church, because many people with deeply held Christian views, are also gay’, he added. ‘And just as the Conservative Party, as an institution, made a mistake in locking people out so I think the Churches can be in danger of doing the same thing.’ I don't even like saying that phrase, 'legalize homosexual marriage' because it conveys the notion that marriage is a 'right' that has been denied certain individuals. Marriage itself is not a 'right' to be granted or denied by the government. Marriage is a sacred institution established by God primarily for the purpose of procreation. Nobody has a 'right' to be married. And if the government defines marriage as a 'right' and says that people cannot be discriminated against based on their sexual 'orientation', then in the name of equality they will have to permit every deviation of 'marriage' imaginable. For instance, why restrict marriage to just two individuals? Isn't that discrimination? Muslims already practice polygamy in this country, albeit not legally. If the government says we can no longer discriminate on the grounds of sexual 'orientation', they will have to legalize polygamy, and possibly a few other things. It's the thin end of the wedge. And it's not just a matter of granting rights to a few individuals to have their 'relationships' recognized by law. In reality the legalization of homosexual 'marriage' will have a profound effect on our education system. As we heard on the news recently, leaked emails sent by the Department of Education to the government reveal that teachers are concerned the proposed legislation will require them to promote homosexual 'marriage' in schools. Children, who are already under intense pressure from the media to push back the boundaries on sexual matters, will face an additional assault on their impressionable minds. I believe that homosexuality is wrong. It's unhealthy. It's against nature. And God calls it sin (Leviticus 18:22). Sin is falling short of God's required standard (Romans 3:23). Some people will argue that homosexuals are born that way, that they can't help it. And so they should be allowed to 'marry'. The Bible teaches us that we are all born sinners (Psalm 51:5). We are all predisposed to certain sins from our youth. For some it may be homosexuality. For others it may be drugs, alcoholism, or something else. Just because we can't help it, that doesn't make what we do right. And that's where Cameron's argument, that the Church should be accepting of homosexuality, falls flat. Not being able to help it doesn't make it right. And legalizing it is not the answer to the problem. Homosexuals who refuse to accept that what they are doing is sin in the sight of God are only locking themselves out of heaven. But those who confess their sins and accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour will never be turned away. The Lord Jesus Christ said in John 6:37, “All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out”. Don't get me wrong, I'm not singling out homosexuals for condemnation. The Bible says all sin is the same in the sight of God (1st Samuel 15:23). But praise God that He has provided a way whereby our sin can be forgiven. He sent His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to bear God's punishment for our sin upon the cross of Calvary. Have your sins been forgiven? Are you washed in the blood of the Lamb? Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ for salvation today. 1st
