Members of the Arab League met in Cairo today, in an effort to forge consensus ahead of the upcoming international peace conference to be held in Annapolis next Tuesday. Foreign Ministers from eleven Arab states were briefed by Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas on progress being made in negotiations with Israel. The Arab League has called for future talks following Annapolis to be based on the Arab Peace Initiative, which offers Arab recognition for Israel in return for a complete withdrawal from all territory captured during the Six Day War and the right of return for Palestinian refugees. Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Moallem has convinced the Arab League to call for the issue of the Golan Heights to be addressed at the conference, and despite Israeli objections it seems the US has consented to their request.

"(The Palestinians) have for seven years witnessed a frozen political process," Erekat said. "Now the question is not whether we should go or not, but strategically, how will we go as Arabs?" "We want peace, but it won't be for whatever price," he added and referred to the borders of a Palestinian state, the status of east Jerusalem and the future of millions of Palestinian refugees as preconditions for peace.

Israel had initially objected to the Golan Heights being discussed at the conference. Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni had stated that Annapolis was not the place to resolve this issue, but it appears that the Arab nations are demanding that all issues pertaining to the division of the land are addressed. The Palestinians are demanding peace, but not at any price, whereas the Israeli Prime Minister is prepared to offer peace at any price... Something I just noticed. Not one mention of Palestinian terrorism in these articles. Not one mention of Israel's disengagement from Gaza, and the ongoing Palestinian terrorism emanating from that territory. All that seems to matter is Israel and the land it must give back. If Israel accedes to their request, will the Jordanians send troops to patrol Judea and Samaria? Will the Egyptians work to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza? I doubt it somehow. At the end of the day, Israel will have to make its own peace. And according to Scripture, we know where this process is leading. For the Bible states that during Daniel's 70th week, the Antichrist will seek to divide the land of Israel for His own gain (Daniel 11:39). And this agreement with many nations (Daniel 9:27) will commence a time of great trouble for the unbelieving Jews. Only when they recognize their Messiah Yeshua, will there be true peace on earth and goodwill to all men.
