Javier Solana, the High Representative for the European Common, Foreign and Security Policy, has stated that the possible loss of the Kadima government in Israel would constitute a death-blow to the Middle East peace process. Quote: "European Union (EU) foreign policy advisor Javier Solana has stated that if the Olmert government falls, "it would constitute a death blow to the peace process, particularly with the Palestinian Authority." Diplomats have said they cannot comment because the government crisis is an internal affair, but they have been reporting to their leaders the chances of Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's remaining in office. He made the comments as calls increase for the Israeli Prime Minister to resign. Polls indicate that a majority of Israelis feel he should go. Last night Ehud Olmert was told by his Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni that he should resign, and that she would take his place. Livni also stated that if he didn't resign, she would. He didn't, and neither did she. It was once seen as honourable in politics for a scandalized politician to resign their job voluntarily, but today it seems there is "no honour among thieves". Not even in the European Union it seems. MEPs travelled to Gaza yesterday to meet with Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh, despite an international economic and political boycott against the terrorist organization Hamas. Quote: "One of the parliamentarians who took part in the meeting, Kyriacos Triantaphyllides from Cyprus, said the EU should deal with the unity government that Islamist Hamas formed six weeks ago with President Mahmoud Abbas's secular Fatah faction. "We consider this as an opportunity for the road to peace," Triantaphyllides told reporters. "This financial embargo should be lifted." A European Union spokeswoman said the bloc's policy of shunning the Hamas movement remains unchanged. "The parliament is not the official representative of the European Union in matters of foreign policy," the spokeswoman said. Kyriacos Triantaphyllides is president of the European Parliament committee for relations with the Palestinian Legislative Council. During his stay in Gaza, he received a gift from Prime Minister Ismael Haniyeh, a painting of East Jerusalem and the Al Aqsa Mosque. I guess Haniyeh is hoping that ultimately the EU will hand East Jerusalem to him on a silver platter. Cracko's meeting with Haniyeh came as the acting Speaker of the Palestinian Legislative Council publicly prayed to Allah on PA television, calling for all Jews and Americans to be killed... Quote: "According to a recording and transcript of the April 20th broadcast, translated and provided by Palestinian Media Watch, PLC Acting Speaker Ahmed Bahr called the Jews "the cancerous lump... in the heart of the Arab nation." He predicted that "America is on its way to disappear. America is wallowing [in blood] today in Iraq and Afghanistan. America is defeated and Israel is defeated, and was defeated, in Lebanon and Palestine." Adopting the open-palmed gesture of Islamic prayer, as did his audience, the PA official intoned: "Allah, take hold of the Jews and their allies, Allah, take hold of the Americans and their allies.... Allah, count them and kill them to the last one and don't leave even one." Cracko had this to say about it... Quote: "" |
