Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert and Vice Premier Shimon Peres have announced their intentions to meet with King Abdullah II of Jordan in Aqaba to discuss the peace process. Olmert had planned to meet Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas in Petra, Jordan today, but Abbas cancelled the meeting at the last minute. Olmert and Peres will still attend an annual gathering of Nobel Peace Prize winners, being held in the ancient fortress town. Olmert is expected to invite Abdullah to a second meeting in Israel. Abdullah recently warned US Vice President Dick Cheney that time was running out to find a peaceful solution to the Middle East conflict... Quote: "Abdullah said the Arab peace initiative, which was first launched in 2002 and revived at an Arab summit earlier this year, "still represented an opportunity to advance peace and end the Arab-Israeli conflict." "Time is not on anyone's side," Abdullah warned. He did not elaborate, but he has previously said that the absence of peacemaking is increasing the popularity of extremists across the Muslim world. Prime Minister Olmert and the King Abdullah II are expected to discuss the faltering peace process with the Palestinians, and the Arab League initiative during their meeting. Shimon Peres plans to meet with Abdullah at the World Economic Forum in Jordan on Sunday, where he will discuss his "Peace Valley" plan... Quote: "Peres will discuss his Peace Valley plan with King Abdullah, which calls for a canal connecting the Gulf of Aqaba with the Dead Sea and the development of industrial and tourist projects along its banks and economic cooperation between Jordan, Israel and the Palestinian Authority. I find it amazing that Israeli leaders are still talking about building a canal from the Dead Sea to the Gulf of Aqaba. They were talking about it when my grandfather visited Israel some two decades ago. What's more ironic, Shimon Peres is calling his plan "Peace Valley". The only artificial valley I read about in the Scriptures will be the valley created by God for Israel to flee to during the time of Jacob's trouble. Zechariah 14:4-5 The Scriptures also state that when the Lord returns, He will be the one to create this canal which will water the desert, and bring life back to the cursed region of Sodom and Gomorrah.
